Four years ago, while visiting my father in Florida I saw and experienced for the first time, Ekornes/Stressless recliners and furniture, and Tempur-Pedic bedding. I was very impressed with the quality, comfort and style of the Ekornes/Stressless brand. And I was equally impressed with the comfort, support and different models available for Tempur-Pedic bedding.
I thought to myself, “What a great idea it would be for a furniture store to specialize in offering the complete line of these two great products.”
Some stores seemed to have some Stressless furniture and a few Tempur-Pedic models; but only a handful of stores in the entire nation carry both product lines. And no one I could find carried the complete line of both Stressless and Tempur-Pedic together. And so the concept for our store was born.

The summer of 2005 I was out shopping near where I live and the sign of a new store called European Comfort caught my eye. Since I was born in Sweden I thought I would go in and take a look. I was delighted to see a store with a complete line of Stressless furniture and all the Tempur-Pedic models. Growing up in Scandinavia, I was familiar with these superior quality products and the lifestyle of the people owning them. My parents have had Stressless furniture in their home for many years and I owned a Tempur-Pedic mattress before they were available in the United States.
I spoke with the owner Paul a few times in the following weeks and I liked the way he ran his business, in particular his view and focus on customer service. Not long after we met, Paul offered me a position. In the fall of 2005 I decided to leave my current position in International Sales and Business Development for a large corporation to join the European Comfort Team. It has been a great few years with plenty of fun and valuable experiences and to this day I am very happy I decided to join European Comfort.
Recently Paul offered me the opportunity to become a partner. I am excited about my new responsibilities and the future lying ahead. With my help we are looking to grow the company while continuing to offer our customers very personal service. My commitment to customer satisfaction, like Paul’s is very strong and our goal is to offer our customers a very personal and comfortable buying experience. I realize the success we have had is directly related to how well we treat our customers. Everyone in the company from ownership, to office staff, to sales staff or inventory/delivery personnel are always focused on servicing our customers. We appreciate our loyal customers and look forward to new opportunities to be of service.
Being a part of European Comfort from the very beginning has been a fun experience. I remember the day I was hired, the store was still just drywall walls and I was interviewed while we sat on drywall buckets. We are not very formal around here. We have a relaxing yet professional enviorment. We all feel good about the great product we carry. And we feel good about how we take care of our customers. We go out of our way to show our appreciation for our customer’s patronage.
I moved from San Diego to Up State New York to help my Dad start this business. If that’s not love, I don’t know what is ! Seeing our company grow in the last year has been great. It feels good to do extra things for our customers. People are always surprised and happy when we do things they don’t expect. On deliveries I hear all the time how we are different and more accomadating than any other furniture store our customers have ever dealt with. We pride ourselves in giving great service. Coming over from the U.K. several years ago has been a bit of an adjustment, but finding a place to work like European Comfort has been a pleasant surprise. We are easy going in our approach and that makes for a nice comfortable environment for our customers and us as well. We want people to take their own time to decide what may be best for them. I hope sometime I will have the opportunity to be of service.
It’s nice to work in a place where everyone cares about each other and how we do business. Our customers are often pleasantly surprised with all the things we are willing to do for them. It’s not unusual for us to help people move things or even take something of theirs to a friend or relative at no charge. We take away old chairs, sofas and bedding often. In many cases we donate those items to an agency that gives them to people in need. We have even stored furniture for people at no charge. I also like that I’m involved in sales at the store. It’s a pleasure to sell these great products. So many customers have gotten a lot of relief from body aches with our furniture and bedding.
